Supplying genuine alloy wheels at giveaway prices

The guys at tyremen for a number of years now have been supplying genuine alloy wheels at giveaway prices, but how are they able to offer such a good deal on OE wheels, we ask them the questions we think need to be asked.

1.       Where do the wheels come from?

The wheels we offer, in the past have always come from Holland we have a great working relationship with one of Europe’s largest vehicle importers, although we still get the majority of our OE stock from Holland we have recently taken a large quantity of Nissan Juke and Qashqai alloy wheels from a main dealer here in Hull.

2.       But why are these wheels taken of brand new cars, are they damaged?

We are asked this question repeatedly. Say you have walked into an Audi showroom and fall in love with an Audi A5, but this car is fitted with standard 17” wheels you ask for bigger flasher wheels, the 17” wheels are removed and replaced. Because the wheel have had tyres fitted to them, they cannot be sold as brand new and this is where we come in. The wheels may carry some very minor cosmetic damage for example surface scratches/chips to the paint but no bends cracks or anything along them lines.

3.       What are your main manufacture you stock for?

We started with a very small amount of 16” BMW and Audi A4 wheels, then quickly realised that customers really did prefer to buy the OE option for  winter use.

We now we keep the following.

Skoda

Octavia 16”

Superb 16”

4.       What is your most popular package you sell over winter?

Well this is a hard one to answer, there would be three top sellers Audi A3, Audi A5 and the BMW 3 Series 16” option.

5.       What is the average cost of just wheels and wheels and winter tyres?

Very cheap! The 16” option cost £350 for genuine alloy wheels. The 17” genuine alloy wheels cost £400. 17” wheels and winter tyres cost around £900 delivered, 16” wheels and winter tyres cost around £650 delivered.

6.       With the wheel been suitable for the newer vehicles, will these be suitable to take TPMS?

Yes, these wheels can be fitted with TPMS sensor valves. We can supply new preprogramed TPMS sensor valve for most new vehicles out there.

So there you are this how and what to expect when buying OE alloy wheels for Tyremen.co.uk

BMW X5 AND X6 WINTER WHEELS AND TYRES

Customer calls: Hello please can I have a price on four Pirelli run-flat winter tyres, size 275/40R20 front and 315/35R20 rear. (This is a classic BMW X5 and X6 combination)…

Many customers give us a call asking the above question; we are all about advice and love the one on one conversation with the customer, always offering the best package we believe to be suited to them. My first response to this question would be have you considered changing your wheels to a smaller size, to which the customer will respond I don’t really want to spend that much on wheels and tyres just for winter.

Therefore, through the process we go.

1st the price on the requested sizes,

275/40R20 PIRELLI SCORPION ICE & SNOW 106V XL R/F £317.00

315/35R20 PIRELLI SCORPION ICE & SNOW 110V XL R/F £373.00

Total price delivered £1380 or fitted at one of our fitting centres across the UK £1450

2nd the cheaper and more affective option.

Recommend dropping down to 19” wheels and tyres option and removing the run-flat tyres, sounds strange I understand however, this should become clearer in a line or two.

19” wheels specially designed for use on the BMW X5 & X6 why so special you ask, when you remove the 315/35R20 from the rear and were to fit a normal 19” or even a 20” it would look sunken under the large wheel arches this is due to the width of the wheel and the offset. What we use is a narrower option both wheels are 9” x 19” offset front ET48 & offset rear ET18. BMW would use this same fitment on the X6 models Xdrive 30d & Xdrive 35i with there 19” option and it looks great. The tyres size for the X6 & X5 would become 255/50R19 again same spec as BMW. This option is 100% better then the wider 315 tyre size for cutting through the snow and slush. The best part of this is the price.

4 X 19” Alloy wheels fitted with 255/50R19 Vredestein Wintrac Xtreme

1 x Continental Compressor kit (all in one compressor and repair kit)

Delivered to your door £1198

Fitted at one of our fitting centres across the UK £1238

Total saving £252 when you buy wheels and tyres over the expensive run-flats

The continental Kit is there so there is no need for run-flats this option many customers take.

Packages can be found here –  BMW X5 2013> & BMW X6

So there we have it fitting new wheels and tyres really can save you 100’s of pounds.

BMW X5 Winter Tyres and Wheels 2007 Models Onwards

BMW-X5-Snow-Pic

Here at Winter Tyre Reviews, we are going to discuss wheels and tyres for the BMW X5 from 2007 onwards to get the most out of your X5 during the winter months. Click here for the range.

You may be asking why you would need winter equipment on a 4 wheel drive, and its a great question to ask. The X5 is a fantastic car but comes with summer tyres and wider rear wheels as standard. They make the car look great from a rear view and are great during the warm weather but don’t perform to the best in colder conditions. We think there is a number of reasons for this:

  1. This type of vehicle is often used to drive to ski resorts, and in most of these countries, the use of winter tyres is an essential safety requirement or required by law in certain regions.
  2. The X5 is a vehicle that is very popular for school runs and day to day ferrying of your most valuable cargo, your family, so you want to ensure that your journey is as safe as it can possibly be.
  3. BMW very often use much wider wheels  and tyres on the rear. They look great, but provide too much road coverage and then perform poorly in ice, slush and snow.

So, with our Winter Tyre Experts, Tyremen, we are going to look at the best wheel and tyre options available on the market to give your X5 the best winter performance and safety that you expect from BMW cars.

Winter tyres on the X5 gives them improved handling in some of the most challenging winter conditions. The following advice is general and can be easily used for most makes of 4 wheel drive, but is geared towards the BMW X5 and there are some subtle changes dependant on year and model.

From 2007 onwards, the BMW X5 start at 18″ wheels as standard, our partner, Tyremen, will shortly be stocking Vredestein, Bridgestone and Yokohama in standard tyres and Continental in runflat. By far the best seller for Tyremen is the Vredestein Wintrac 4 Xtreme and is a fantastic winter tyre that can handle some quite tough conditions.

The Vredestein can be used all year round, it is sensibly priced and returns impressive mileage . We have seen many owners move away from the runflat option for this tyre, however, if you are going to do this, make sure you invest in a puncture repair kit, Continental offer three different options, and ensure that you road side assistance is up to date.

For the X5 that is fitted with wheels 19″ these vehicles can easily drop down to the 18″ wheel. Tyremen import some alloy wheels from Alutec based in Germany which are ideal for the X5 and, as you would expect from a German company, engineered well. They come with a 5 year guarantee, are styled like a BMW wheel so it won’t look out of place. Tyremen offer the Alutec Design E, fitted with either a standard or runflat winter tyre.

The only issue you will have with reducing wheel size is the appearance of the X5. For the 19″ wheel, you will most likely have 255/50R19 to the front and 285/45R19 to the rear. By replacing with the 18″ package, you will have a narrower tyre placement which is much more effective in winter. However, it won’t fill the rear wheel arches and you don’t want the look of your X5 to change, so we recommend the 18″ ‘staggered offset’ wheels to the rear. They fill the arches out well and you’d never know they were slightly smaller wheels.

So, now we’ve looked at 18″ wheels, your car has the 19″ or 20″ option on them. Worried that the 18″ option, even with the staggered offset, will be too small? Not a problem, there is a 19″ wheel, again with offset for the rear. This again, is another BMW styled wheel which will give you the same width front and rear. You can then use the 255/50R19 tyre which is a sensible size for winter. These can come with ‘split offsets’ which means the rear wheels are made in such a way that they sit further out than the fronts.

Has your X5 the 20″ wheel option? Then most likely you will have 275/40R20 (available in a winter tyre) to the front and 315/35R20 to the rear, the rears are next to impossible to find as a winter tyre, so you will need to come down to the 19″ option.

This will fill out the rear arches so you would never know you had a narrower wheel fitted. Below is an image from a Tyremen customer, showing how well the narrower smaller wheels fit and maintain the integrity of the X5 look.
